The JOHN DEERE 8850 was launched in 1982 as the largest four-wheel tractor in the 8050 Series. It was built at JOHN DEERE’s Waterloo, Iowa factory in the United States. The JD 8850 tractor is equipped with an eight-cylinder, 15.7-litre JOHN DEERE inter-cooled turbocharged diesel engine. The powerful 370-horsepower engine delivers a power take-off (PTO) of about 300 horsepower. At the time, the liquid-cooled V8 engine was a departure from the design of other JOHN DEERE engines. The tractor features Quad-Range partial power shift transmission with 16 forward and six reverse gears. Other JOHN DEERE 8850 specs included full-power PTO and a three-point hitch with Load-and-Depth control. A JOHN DEERE 8850 tractor for sale from retailers was available with optional independent rear PTO. Additional features included four-by-four articulated four-wheel drive (4WD), power wet disc brakes, hydrostatic power steering, and a comfortable Sound-Gard cab with air conditioning. The tractor is designed with closed centre constant-pressure hydraulics and a 45.5-gallon (172.2-litre) hydraulic system capacity. The JD 8850 tractor has a large fuel tank with a capacity of 240 gallons or 908.4 litres.
