PANASONIC
PANASONIC is one of the world leaders in innovative, high quality electrical and electronic goods, and the company is known for its exceptional range of audio-visial equipment and superior quality appliances.
One Man's Vision
PANASONIC founder Konosuke Matsushita founded his Matsushita Electric Housewares Manufacturing Works company with his wife and brother in law (future founder of Sanyo, Toshio Iue) in 1917 in Osaka, Japan. By 1922 he had opened a head office and his first factory, and by 1927 a range of bicycle lamps was selling over 30,000 units per month in its first year of production. Tetsujiro Nakao was placed in charge of the electrical heater division and developed exciting new products like the Super Electric Iron, which was better than competitors products and 30% lower in price. Tetsujiro would guide and influence the company's Research & Development for many years to come. As success continued, Matsushita renamed the company 'National' with a vision of his electrical goods in every home in Japan.
The creation of a global brand
In 1929, the Japanese economy was in crisis, but the company was flourishing. The company announced that it would develop in an upstanding manner, contributing to society as a whole. The PANASONIC philosophy is relatively unchanged to this day. By 1930, Matsushita had set up Kokudo Electric Co. to manufacture the company's first radios. Despite World War II and the hardships of the post-war years, PANASONIC grew and developed. In 1952 PANASONIC marketed their first black and white TV, and their first colour TV was made in 1960. Other notable landmarks include their first microwave oven in 1966, first CD player in 1982, their first notebook PC in 1990 and their first DVD player and Plasma TV in 1996. Now a global concern, PANASONIC continue to lead the way, developing products that combine exceptional functionality with high quality, and in keeping with the vision and philosophy of founder Konosuke Matsushita.
